Penrith City Youth Choir 2019

PCYC is led by Musical Director, Lucy McAlary and is mentored by PCC (Adult choir), with a series of rehearsals in which to prepare for each performance.  2019 sees two contrasting projects: the first, a chance to enjoy intimate ensemble singing both ‘a cappella’ and with recorder ensemble; the second a grand festive program with Penrith Symphony Orchestra.

Members are welcome to do one or both projects depending on their interests and availability.  Musical scores will be provided. The participation fee is $25 per project.

‘Madrigals and more’ with The February Consort

Sundays 1 and 15 September            3.00 – 5.30pm Choral workshops at Penrith Public School
Sunday 22 September                        3.00 – 4.00pm Sound check rehearsal at Penrith PS, followed by
                                                                 4.00 – 5.00pm Performance

A very special project culminating in a joint performance with the recorder ensemble ‘The February Consort’ and Penrith City Children’s Choir.  During the choral workshops Youth Choir members will help mentor the Children’s Choir (3 – 5pm) learning the magical ‘Myoon-myoon’ by Australian composer Stephen Leek with its extended vocal techniques and the powerful spiritual ‘Joshua fought the battle’.  They will then rehearse independently (5 – 5.30pm) focussing on madrigals which will be performed with ‘The February Consort’.

‘The Family Christmas Concert’

A thrilling opportunity to sing with Penrith Symphony Orchestra in the best concert of the festive season. Includes the orchestral arrangements of William James’ famous ‘Australian Christmas Carols’, Holst’s iconic ‘In the bleak midwinter’ and the ‘Grand March’ from Verdi’s Aida.  Also featuring Penrith City Children’s Choir, Penrith Youth Orchestra and local singing sensation, Brittanie Shipway.  A special guest from the North Pole may also make an appearance.  Conducted by Paul Terracini.  Lucy McAlary - chorus director.  A co-production presented by PSO and PCC.

PCYC members need to attend at least two of these choral rehearsals. The combined choir and orchestral rehearsals are compulsory.
