Penrith City Youth Choir 2020
PCYC is led by Musical Director, Lucy McAlary and is mentored by PCC (Adult choir). The choir works on a project basis in close collaboration with the both children’s and adult choirs. 2020 sees three different projects including an opportunity to sing with Penrith Symphony Orchestra. Members are welcome to do one, two or all three projects depending on their interests and availability. Musical scores will be provided. The participation fee is $25 per project. Projects for 2020: Project I ‘A FESTIVAL OF CHOIRS’ Two workshops Sunday 29 March 3.00 – 5.30pm and Sunday 17 May 3.00 – 5.30pm at Penrith Public School Performance Sunday 24 May 4.00pm at St Finbar’s Church, Glenbrook 4.00pm (Sound- check rehearsal time to be advised) Penrith City Youth Choir will feature alongside Penrith City Children’s Choir in this gala choral concert sharing the stage with adult choirs from near and far in the beautiful acoustic of St Finbar’s Church. In workshops Youth Choir members will help mentor the Children’s Choir as well as enjoy some independent rehearsal time. Project II ‘CINEMA CLASSICS’ with Penrith Symphony Orchestra Performance Saturday 12 September 7.30pm at The Joan. A thrilling opportunity to sing with Penrith Symphony Orchestra Festival Chorus. This concert is part of PSO’s 2020 season and features some of the greatest musical moments from the movies, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and James Bond. Choral rehearsals with PCC & Lucy McAlary Wednesdays 5, 12, 19 and 26 August 7.30 – 9.30pm Orchestral Room 2, The Joan PCYC members need to attend at least two of these choral rehearsals. The combined choir and orchestral rehearsals are compulsory. Combined Choir rehearsal with Lucy McAlary Wednesday 2 September 7.30 – 9.30pm at The Joan, Orchestral Room 2 Orchestral rehearsals with Paul Terracini Wednesday 9 September 7.30 – 10.00pm The Joan Friday 11 September 7.30 – 10.00pm The Joan Project III ‘MUSIC AND READINGS FOR CHRISTMAS’ at St Finbar’s, Glenbrook Two Workshops Sunday 22 November and Sunday 13 December, 3.00 – 5.30pm Public Performance Sunday 20 December, 7.30pm at St Finbar’s, Glenbrook (Sound-check rehearsal time to be advised) Following a stunning performance in 2018 Penrith City Children’s and Youth Choirs have been invited to take part again in this annual event directed by Robert Ampt, Sydney City Organist. Other performers include Penrith Symphony Brass, harp, organ, vocal soloists and a combined adult chorus. A highly anticipated performance which attracts a full house every year. A must for the whole family. During workshops Youth Choir members will help mentor the Children’s Choir and rehearse independently.
